3 Futures Ltd Man of the Match : Charlie Davis

The preverbal game of two halves as the points were shared, but overall, Boatmen were disappointed not to have come away with a win.

Team News : Marv & Byron were only fit enough for the bench, but Charlie Davis returned in midfield.

We made the best possible start, scoring with only a minute on the clock as Jake Hesketh put a sliderule pass through the defence to release WAYNE ROBINSON down the left channel and as the keeper advanced, Wayne slotted the ball between his legs for his 6th goal of the season.

We continued to be on top, knocking the ball around at pace and created a host of chances to extend our lead.  Dan Mason was put through on the right, the keeper spread himself to make the save, D-Dan recovered the ball and set up Wayne, whose shot was blocked near the goalline.

It was almost a carbon copy of our goal as Wayne Robinson raced away down the left again, this time he knocked the ball past the keeper, but there wasn't the sufficient weight on the shot to find the net and a defender was able to get back and clear.

Again we broke through the Hanwell back line, this time Jake Cope was in a one-on-one with the keeper who came well outside his box and appeared to tip the ball as Copey lifted it over him with that deflection enabling the ball to bounce against the post instead of going in.  Our appeals for handball fell on deaf ears from the officials.

More great football saw a lovely crossfield pass by Charlie Davis to find Jake Adams on the left and his excellent low cross was met in the 6 yard box by Wayne, but he got his feet all wrong and that saw the ball ricochet out, instead of in the goal.  Hanwell were mostly defending in the first 45 but did create a chance just before the break when Gosney smothered a close range shot at his near post. HT 1-0

Charlie Davis had the ball in a similar position to his freekick goal at Beaconsfield, but this time it curled just wide.  He then tried a well struck shot from 30 yards in a central position that went narrowly over.

Hanwell were looking better organised at the back and more of a threat going forward as the Boatmen lost the impetus and the visitors grew in confidence. Mat Mackenzie hit a volley on the run narrowly over before Hanwell equalised on 57 minutes.  Gosney's left footed clearance under no pressure went straight to a Hanwell player in midfield who quickly fed his teammate to set up Sam Evans in space in the area to find the bottom corner.

The visitors put in a couple of crosses that just evaded men in the middle. We looked to hit back when Jake Adams' freekick beat the wall, but went into the side netting.  Gosney made a good save down to his right, before down the other end, Copey touched the ball past the keeper, but we couldn't make the most of Legg being out of his goal as Hanwell closed it down.

"The Geordies" looked the more likely to grab a late winner and Duncan rose highest in the box, but planted his header over the bar when well placed.   Neither side could fashion much in the 7 minutes of added time as the game ended level.  FT 1-1

Marc Diaper : "Tough one to take today given the amount of chances we created in the first half, but we’ll take the point and a good week with 4 out of 6. The lads came off really disappointed with a draw which shows we’re moving in the right direction. The first half was some of the best football we’ve played and until they changed their shape it was very comfortable. Credit to Hanwell though. A mistake let them back in the game, but I thought they looked good in the 2nd half. We’ve got a week to get a couple more players back from injury now before another tough game next week against Poole Town in the Trophy"
