The Boatmen had to settle for a draw on a rainy Easter Monday in Dorset, with the point securing our place in the Southern Premier South for next season.
Brad Targett had powered Sholing in front after only eleven minutes with a well taken strike, but a second half leveller from Will Fletcher meant it finished a point a piece.
It was a bright start from Paul Doswell’s men as they looked to put Friday’s defeat to now league champions Merthyr behind them, and they were in front early on. Billie Busari with some excellent work down the right hand side before sending the ball into the box where it eventually fell to Brad Targett, who smashed the ball past Ross Flitney to give Sholing a deserved lead.
Busari continued to be a thorn in Wimborne’s side as he nearly doubled his sides lead on the half hour mark after a mazy run, but Flitney was equal to his close range effort.
Wimborne responded immediately with a chance of their own up the other end, but Pat Nash did well to smother to ball to maintain Sholing’s lead.
It was a different story in the second period with the hosts coming up fighting and they were rewarded for their efforts with just over an hour gone, as Will Fletcher fired the ball into the top right hand corner to bring his side level.
There wasn’t too much in the way of clear cut chances as the second half wore on in the rain, with Romeo Akinola’s free kick the closest either side came to a winner.
A draw it finished, with the point quashing any lingering relegation fears for the Boatmen as we look to finish the season on a high with the visit of Bracknell Town on Saturday, kick off 3pm at the Mortgage Decisions Stadium.
