The Boatmen will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to four matches as they welcome Hungerford Town to the Mortgage Decisions Stadium in the first game of a hectic November schedule.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere prior to kick off for the achievements of both Byron & Dan Mason, Sholing were pegged back twice last time out in the enthralling 2-2 draw with Gosport Borough last Saturday, with Dan’s brace cancelled out by a double from Gosport’s Ben Greenwood, with both goals coming in stoppage time at the end of either half. The game did, however, see a debut for new stopper Declan McCarthy, who produced a string of excellent saves throughout the game to show why Paul Doswell & Ross White were so eager for him to replace Craig King.
There is reason to be optimistic for the Boatmen going into Saturday’s game, with our upturn in form coinciding with a poor run of form for the visitors, with Hungerford without a win in their last seven league games, including a goalless draw at home to Weymouth at Bulpit Lane last time out.
Head-to-head
It was a win apiece for both sides when we met the Crusaders in the last campaign in the Southern Premier South, with a 2-1 reverse at Bulpit Lane in January coupled with a resounding 4-0 victory for the Boatmen at the Mortgage Decisions Stadium in March. Hungerford did, however, prevail against the Boatmen when we met in last seasons FA Trophy, winning 3-1 on home turf.
