Sholing made it four games unbeaten as they prevailed 5-3 over Hungerford Town in a a thriller at the Mortgage Decisions Stadium.

A goal for Vinnie Tume and a brace apiece for Jake McCarthy & Michael Folivi was enough for Sholing to get past a stubborn Hungerford side to maintain our unbeaten home run this season.

It was almost the perfect start for the Boatmen in the pouring Hampshire rain, with Michael Folivi’s free kick crashing against the post inside the first three minutes.

Sholing kept up the pressure and found themselves in front nine minutes later, as Vinnie Tume finished brilliantly into the roof of the net from the angle after being played through smartly by Dan Mason.

The lead lasted less than ten minutes, as an old face came back to haunt the Boatmen. Sholing failed to clear a cross and the ball was eventually bundled in via the head of Fabio Lopes on his return to SO19.

The end-to-end football continued and Sholing were back in front just past the half-hour mark, with Michael Folivi finishing smartly after en exquisite lay off from Jake McCarthy.

The lead continued into the break, but it was Hungerford who struck next, with Harry Williams firing home from close range to level the scores.

The scores weren’t level for long as Sholing hit back only three minutes later. Folivi was upended in the box when through on the goalkeeper, with the Sholing goal machine dusting himself off to smash the penalty past Jenson Kilroy to put his side back in front.

It got even better for the Boatmen three minutes later,  with Jake McCarthy finishing off a magnificent solo run by dinking the ball over Kilroy to double Sholing’s advantage.

The two goal cushion was short lived as Hungerford hit back for a third time, with Milan Edwards finishing well down Sholing’s right hand side to close the gap.

Sholing, however, weren’t finished there. Jake McCarthy found himself some space on the right-hand side of the penalty box before curling the ball brilliantly past Kilroy to restore his sides two goal advantage.

It was almost a hat-trick for McCarthy in the first minute of stoppage time, but Kilroy did brilliantly well to save the ball with his legs.

There was to be no further drama as it finished 5-3 in a thoroughly entertaining affair in SO19.

The Boatmen are back in home action for the third time in as many weeks next Saturday as we take on Bracknell Town at the Mortgage Decisions Stadium. Kick off 3pm.
