Craig King was the hero once again as his second half penalty save preserved a vital point on the road for the 10-man Boatmen.
Vinnie Tume continued his fine run of form as his curling effort had given Sholing the lead just after the quarter of an hour mark, before Jack Mazzone’s close range header levelled the scores in the second period. There was then a frantic couple of minutes as the hosts were awarded a spot kick with Brad Targett being sent off in the process, but Craig King saved brilliantly from Gary Abisogun to keep the scores level.
It was the hosts who had the better of the early stages and could have been in front early on through Mazzone, but he dragged his shot wide when played through on goal.
Sholing soon gained a bit of control and found themselves ahead on 16 minutes, Brad Targett feeding Vinnie Tume who cut inside and curled a wonderful effort past Luke Wynne-Roberts and into the far corner.
That was the only real effort for the Boatmen in a first half dominated by their hosts, albeit without really testing Craig King.
The second half began in a much different fashion with Sholing coming out the traps quickly and it could’ve been 2-0 within two minutes of the restart, but the offside flag denied Tume his second of the evening. Michael Folivi then came mighty close from a long range free kick, but Wynne-Roberts did well to acrobatically turn the ball behind.
Chertsey did soon regain control of the game and were level with just over twenty minutes to play, with Mazzone nodding home from close range following a cross from the left.
Then came two moments of controversy on 82 minutes. The Curfews were awarded a spot kick after Brad Targett was adjudged to have dived in and caught man rather than ball, with the Sholing defender then receiving a red card in the process. Gary Abisogun then stepped up and fired the ball down the middle only to be denied by the legs of Craig King for his second penalty save in as many games.
Sholing battled well with the man disadvantage and almost snatched it right at the end. Reece Wylie with a long range pile driver that was destined for the top corner, only for Wynne-Roberts to superbly finger tip the ball behind.
There wasn’t to be a winner for either side as Sholing make it two unbeaten as they look to gain a bit of momentum ahead of three straight home league games. The first of which is on Saturday against Hampshire neighbours Gosport Borough. Kick off 3pm.
