Deadly duo of Lee Wort & Dan Mason continued their goalscoring exploits, taking their tally to an incredible 33 in 16 games this season as the Boatmen made it 7 wins out 7 in the League.  Played in a gusty cold wind and rain, the conditions were a shock to the system for players and spectators alike compared to the quite pleasant start to the season we've had, weather wise.  It made for a scrappy game, but one where Sholing got the job done.

Team News : TJ Cuthbertson returned, but Marv Mclean sat out with a knock & Jamie Bulpitt was still nursing his ankle injury.  Owen Roundell came back in for Pete Castle and there was a debut start for former Eastleigh academy player, Ryan Mackney.

The strong gusty wind was blowing in the rain from the top of the pitch towards the clubhouse as the game got underway.  First chance came to Sholing when on 6 mins, Jake Hoole fired in a left wing cross towards Dan Mason, the defender got to it first, diverting it onto the underside of the bar and down, but not across the line.  D-Dan was set up by TJ on 15 mins, but his shot was always curling over.  A minute later, Lee Wort left two defenders on the floor as he came away with the ball, shot, but it was scrambled away near the line.

Sholing had the majority of the possession, with Mackney showing some nice touches in midfield, but the Boatmen were labouring a bit to get the ball to the front two.  From a corner on 33 mins, Dan Mason connected well with a header at the near post, but just cleared the bar.  Shaftesbury created their best chance on 39 mins as the ball fell to Mitchell in the area but his sidefoot effort was put wide.   HT 0-0

Sholing, now with the wind at their backs, looked to up the tempo after the restart and took just 5 minutes to find the breakthrough. Jack Smith did well on the left wing to hook over a cross that Dan Mason headed against the crossbar, with the ball dropping to LEE WORT 8 yards out and he smashed in a first time volley for goal number 14 of the season.  Wort was denied by a good save on 64 mins and then Jake Hoole showed great skill to control the ball and then beat two players before being denied by the legs of the keeper.

Dan Mason hit the woodwork for the second time in the match on 72 mins, hitting a rasping snapshot that pinged off the top of the bar.   Kevin Brewster came on in the final few minutes and was instantly involved, having a shot punched away and then arriving on the edge of the area to hit a first time shot, just wide.  Shaftesbury had been getting into dangerous positions, but what few shots they did get off, were comfortable for Gosney.  Two minutes into added time, DAN MASON got a deserved goal, his 19th of the season, as he collected the ball in the right side of the box, made half a yard on the defender and drilled a low shot across the keeper and into the far corner.  Overall, there may not have been much to warm the hardy souls who braved the elements, but a win's a win and the Boatmen keep their 100% record alive. FT 2-0
