Fine rain started sweeping in as the game got underway on a decent looking surface in front of a handful of spectators. After 5 minutes Sholing opened up the home team as Byron Mason was sent clear through the middle, but Edmonds did well to save with his legs.  Keeper was called into action again on 20 minutes as Dan Mason fed Bradey Norton, but his effort was parried away.   Marv showed his pace to skin the right back a couple of times, the second time his cross went all the way through to Brewy on the other wing, but his effort was blocked.

Home team were knocking the ball around well, but the couple of openings they created were let down by wayward final shots.  Was a blow for Sholing on 40 minutes when Alex Sawyer went down after a challenge and appeared in some pain.  As he was carried slowly round the pitch back to the dressing room, Lee Wort came on in his place.   Dan Mason had a couple of efforts just before half time, firstly a ball over the top saw him advance into space, but on the stretch, he poked his effort wide.  Then, from Marv's excellent left wing cross, he got in front of his marker and flashed a header that went inches over the bar.  HT 0-0

After what felt like a very long half time break, Sholing came out and took the game by the scruff of the neck, scoring two goals in quick succession in almost identical fashion.  On 49 minutes, Kev Brewster curled a deep cross from the right that found DAN MASON to head accurately back past the keeper.  It was almost deja-vu on 54 minutes as this time, "Brewy's" whipped in cross was perfectly into the "corridor of uncertainty" and was knocked in by DAN MASON from 6 yards.

Then the game got a bit weird. There hadn't been any bad tackles or clashes between the players up to this point, but a late tackle on Lee Wort saw a little bit of handbags between both teams.  From the stand, it didn't look very serious at all, but the Ref astonished everyone by showing a Red card to Marv Mclean.  Jack Smith came on for Bradey to slot in at left back, but the game was messy for the next 15 mins as tempers took a while to cool down.

Dan Mason went in search of a hat-trick and a trademark spin and shot, saw the keeper save well.  Ringwood put some late pressure on the 10 Boatmen, Jamie Bray did well to block a shot at his near post and came and punched clear a couple of times.  The homeside had appeals for a late penalty waved away, but the League Cup Holders were able to keep another clean sheet and advance in the Competition.  FT 0-2
