Sholing, missing 5 first team players, were defeated by top of the table Blackfield, in an even match, but one where the Boatmen failed to work the home keeper & the home side always looked in control.

Team News : The Masons & Marv were at a family wedding and Lee Wort was on holiday as the Boatmen travelled to Blackfield, who had a 100% league record thus far. Mouland & Norton were Sholing's most forward players in a rejigged line-up.

Was an even opening, but the home side saw a huge slice of good fortune on 14 minutes to take the lead. A miss-hit shot from outside the box was heading wide until it hit Jamie White just inside the area and spun past a helpless Gosney & into the bottom corner.   Sholing could/should have had a penalty two minutes later after a some nice one-touch passing down the right saw the ball played into Bulpitt's feet inside the box, he was felled from behind, but to Sholing players and supporters amazement, the ref indicated the ball had been won fairly.

Ryan Gosney was called into action for a couple of routine saves as the home side looked the more dangerous of the two teams going forward.  Boatmen were keeping the ball on the floor and knocking it around nicely, but as soon as they reached the edge of the Blackfield box, the home defence were proving too strong for Sholing to get in behind.  HT 1-0

Same pattern for the start of the second half, with Sholing working hard, but not managing a shot at the end of their build up.  Dave Diaper made a double change just past the hour mark with Jake Hoole & Jean-Luc Ramdin coming on and immediately, their pace & willingness to run at Blackfield injected new life into the game.  Jean-Luc got in behind a couple of times, but his crosses couldn't find a red & white shirt.

Blackfield seemed happy to hit on the break and on 77 minutes, Gosney did well to save a well struck shot from inside the area.   Only a long range effort from TJ could go down as a shot on target by the Boatmen, who pushed Dan Miller forward for the last 5 minutes and were then hit on 86 minutes as Callum Cunliffe-Piley broke down the right wing at pace and crossed into the area for the arriving Jamie White to side foot a cool finish past Gosney.  FT 2-0
