Sholing drew a blank as they failed to break down a stubborn Bournemouth side.  Boatmen's best chances came late in the game, but the Poppies keeper earned the home team a point.

Team News: Barry Mason made his 500th appearance for the club. Jack Smith again missed out and could sadly be out of contention for a while. Apart from Pete Castle on the bench, the team was the one that finished the game so well at Portchester.

First 10 minutes were pretty even as both sides showed lots of energy, but without troubling either keeper.  Sholing had a good shout for a penalty when Jake Hoole skipped into the box and the Poppies defender seem to go through the back of him before connecting with the ball.  However, the ref wasn't interested.  On 14 mins, Hoole curled in a freekick that Barry Mason flicked on, but it just evaded the outstretched leg of Owen Roundell at the far post.

Ryan Gosney caused a scare when he came out of his goal to clear a through ball, but scuffed his clearance, but Bournemouth were unable to get the ball back into the danger zone to capitalise on an empty net.  Up the other end, Zac Mouland went on a run, but his shot on goal was without the power to trouble the keeper.   On 30 mins, Bournemouth had their best chance of the game when their player was found inside the 6 yard box, but on the half volley, he blazed wildly over.   Jake Hoole was looking Sholing's best attacking option in the first half, he worked some space and went for a measured curled effort, when he probably had the space and time to put his laces through the ball.  HT 0-0

Sholing started the second half a bit sluggish and a well worked move by Bournemouth ended with a shot that whistled just wide of Gosney's far post.  Dan Mason hadn't seen much of the ball, but on 62 mins, he forced Nick Thomas into a good save.  Two minutes later, Dan was presented with an even better chance.  Sholing broke forward and had 3 against one, Zac Mouland passed across the box to the unmarked Dan Mason, but he delayed slightly, allowing a Poppies defender to block his goal bound effort.

Barry Mason made way for Nick Yeomans on 74 minutes as the home team appeared to tire a little and gaps started to open up for Sholing.  A succession of 4 corners all saw good deliveries into the box, but each time, the ball always seemed to bounce away from a Sholing foot at the crucial moment as the home team managed to clear.   With 3 minutes remaining, Nick Thomas denied Zac Mouland and then Owen Roundell, with the latter's shot coming quickly off the keeper to the arriving Nick Yeoman's who fired over a gaping goal.   The Poppies keeper had the last word, pulling off a great save to deny Byron Mason's powerful header.

So, Sholing had to settle for a draw at a ground where we often seem to struggle.  Even the 2013/14 League & Vase winning team lost here, so better one point, than none. FT 0-0
