Sholing eased through to the second round of the FA vase with a convincing 3-1 victory over Laverstock & Ford at the Silverlake Arena. Doug Rowe opened the scoring early on, before Dan Mason added a second in the 28th minute. Mason doubled his tally shortly after half-time to put the game to bed. Laverstock pulled a goal back late on before the game was cut short following a nasty injury to the visitors goalkeeper.

Sholing started on the front foot, their quick passing down the right-hand side freed Rowe in the box who could only toe-poke his effort towards goal. The Boatmen’s pressure continue to build on the Laverstock & Ford goal, and in the 8th minute Dan Mason shot was too hot to handle for Acer Burton, but the rebound was blazed wide by Marvin Mclean.

The away side struggled to come to terms with the pace and movement of Dave Diaper’s men and the breakthrough was made in the 14th minute. Jake Hoole did brilliant down the left-side, before placing a perfect cross to the back post which found DOUG ROWE who tapped home his first goal for the club from close range.

Sholing, continued to dominate as the half went on, and in the 28th minute the home side added their second. Kevin Brewster delivered a dangerous ball into the box, and DAN MASON made the most of a goalkeeping error with a simple finish into the roof of the net.

Mason came close towards the end of the first-half with a sweetly-struck volley but his effort went just wide.  The visitors were making no headway against the Sholing defence, with keeper, Ryan Gosney, a virtual spectator in the first 45.  HT 2-0

After the break the Boatmen continued in the same manor and added the third in the 53rd minute. A long ball forward was superbly controlled by DAN MASON, who turned his marker and from 16 yards, placed his shot into the far corner past Burton for his 19th goal of the season.

The 2014 FA vase winners sustained their dominance and twice came close to adding a fourth minutes later. Left-winger, Hoole, flashed wide from an acute angle, before substitute, Barry Mason, headed his effort inches past the post.

With the game won, Diaper’s men eased off towards the end and Laverstock were able to grab themselves a consolation as Robert Gallagher found himself unmarked in the box to finish under no pressure.

On full time, Barry Mason, in on a one-on-one, collided with the Laverstock keeper, who then stayed down.  After a few minutes it became apparent it was a serious injury and after both benches conferred with Referee, Nigel Whitfield, the final whistle was blown.  Acer Burton was tended to by Sholing physio, Tasha Bowers, in the penalty area whilst the long wait for an ambulance took place.  After an hour, Acer was taken away with a deep cut to his knee.  Everyone at Sholing wish him a speedy recovery.
