Sholing came into this match looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight league matches. Also, they donned their new away shirt sponsored by Powerplus GB Ltd. The match was played in bright conditions but with a very blustery wind. Dan Mason was looking to extend his goal tally of eleven goals in his last nine matches.

Team News: With Lewis Kelly still away on holiday, Sholing also had missing Marvin McLean through injury plus the long term injuries to Pete Castle and Dan Dove. Prior to kick off there were two late fitness tests for Jack Smith and Ryan Gosney. Ryan Gosney was declared fit to play, however, Jack Smith still feeling his injury was dropped to the bench.

Fareham kicked off playing with the wind but the first chance fell to Jamie Bulpitt who hit his shot from 25yds just wide of Claude Da Costa’s upright. A long ball into the Fareham area had both Dan and Byron Mason challenging for the ball but Fareham cleared their lines. Fareham’s first attempt on the Sholing goal was to be penalised for offside.

On six minutes Sholing took the lead. We were awarded a freekick on the right hand side of the pitch around 30 yds out. Kevin Brewster lined up the freekick and found Dan Mason who met it with a diving header which was blocked, but Dan was quick to get back to his feet to nudge the rebound into the path of BARRY MASON who hammered the ball home from 12yds.

On thirteen minutes Sholing had the chance to double their lead when Kevin Brewster found Dan Miller at the back post, but his header went just wide. Then it was Byron Mason who won the ball and found Kevin Brewster whose deep cross found James Davis but his shot was held by Claude Da Costa. Ryan Gosney was quick to clear the ball when Kevin Brewster’s back pass fell short. Fareham were using the long ball to try and break down the Sholing defence Jamie Bulpitt backtracked and was rewarded by referee Moisey who awarded a goalkick. Kevin Brewster’s deep crosses were hanging up in the wind and creating trouble for the Fareham defence who were finding it difficult clearing their lines at times and the Sholing corner tally continued to rise.

On twenty three minutes Fareham had the chance to level the scores when Bradey Norton’s corner found Marley Ridge on the edge of the box who headed the ball on to Luke Heard but the Fareham captain headed over with goal at his mercy.  Fareham were having their best spell of the half, Owen Roundell conceded a corner Bradey Norton again found Marley Ridge whose effort was punched clear by Ryan Gosney, but Jack James wasted his shot hitting it over the bar.

On 29 minutes, Sholing doubled their lead with a well worked goal. A quick throw in by Owen Roundell found Alex Sawyer, who threaded a ball in between the Fareham defence to release James Davis. As goalkeeper Da Costa came out to cut down the angle, Davis unselfishly squared the ball for DAN MASON to score his twelfth goal of the season.

Moments later it was Fareham goalkeeper Da Costa denying captain Byron Mason getting on the score sheet with his brothers.  Fareham squandered another opportunity when Jack James picked out Sam Martin who found Zac Gill but he headed the ball tamely wide without testing Gosney.  Sholing finished the half winning more corners but couldn't add to their goal tally. HT 0-2

Sholing had their first effort of the second half when Barry Mason struck the ball from 35 yards assisted by the wind, but his shot went straight at the keeper. Aaron Camp was lucky to escape a yellow card when he hauled down the lively Jamie Bulpitt in full flight. Kevin Brewster took the free kick but he hit it too long for Dan and Byron Mason.

7 minutes into the second half Sholing should have scored their third goal when Kevin Brewster’s corner found Byron Mason unmarked but he headed the ball just over the angle of the woodwork. Two minutes later Kevin Brewster, Dan Mason and Barry Mason linked up to put Jamie Bulpitt in on goal but he hit his shot wide. Barry Mason appeared to be struggling with what looked like a tight hamstring and on 57 minutes was replaced by Tobi Adekunle. At the other end, the tricky Bradey Norton made space for himself but hit his shot wide from distance. Dan Mason found space on the left side of the 6 yard box, but instead of shooting, he tried to set up Byron for another "Triple Mason" but the ball was just too heavy for the skipper to control.

Dan Mason found Jamie Bulpitt who picked out Tobi Adekunle unmarked on the right wing, but with space to run into, he decided to shoot from 20 yards and scuffed his shot so it dribbled through to the keeper. Then a long throw in by Owen Roundell eludes everyone in a Sholing shirt and the Fareham defence clear the ball straight to Alex Sawyer who hits his shot over the bar from 25 yds.

With thirteen minutes remaining, James Davis found Alex Sawyer who picked out Dan Mason who saw his shot cleared off the line by Dan Jackson and Byron Mason followed up but hit his left foot volley wide. Fareham introduced George Davis for Jack James and Sholing replaced Owen Roundell with Breon Graham. Tobi Adekunle raced on to a misplaced header by the Fareham defender but he hit his shot across the face of the goal. With the clocking closing in on the ninety minutes Sholing gave a debut to Victor Odeyemi replacing Jamie Bulpitt.  FT 0-2
