Sholing Reserves 1-0 AFC Totton Reserves

11 May 2015 - Wyvern John Stimpson Memorial Shield Final  Scorer : Elliot Richards

Location : Romsey Town FC.  Attendance : 180

Team: Jordan Brooks, Terry New, Jacob Joseph, Karl Littleboy, Owen Roundell, Dan Dove, Connor Bloomfield, Josh Oxlade [c], Serge Fon, Tomas Halvorsen, Coby Wilson.  Subs : Elliot Richards, Les Mwenze, Jess Walklin. Not Used : Liam Golding, Joel Drew.

Sholing Reserves deservedly lifted the John Stimpson Memorial Shield in a game they dominated, but had to settle for a single goal late on.

Totton were first out the blocks and Jordan Brooks saved well down to his left in the first minute. That was as good as it got for Totton, as from that point on, it was all Sholing in the first half.  Serge Fon powered a shot just over and then Connor Bloomfield surged down the right wing, but his cross was put wide on the stretch by Josh Oxlade.  Coby Wilson was causing Totton problems, but he hurried a shot when well placed and it went over the bar.  On 30 mins, a goal bound header was deflected over the Totton bar with the Stag's defender not knowing much about it. Another good chance just before the break as Connor Bloomfield headed back across goal but again it was just off target.  HT 0-0

Totton were more organised at the start of the second half and applied some pressure on the Sholing back line, but they were all snuffed out by a strong defence, with Dan Dove playing the anchor role in midfield, mopping up before springing Sholing forward.  On 60 minutes Josh Oxlade appeared to have been tripped in the box, but no penalty was given.  From a corner, Serge Fon met the ball with a powerful header that the keeper palmed up into the air and was cleared.  Sholing pressure was building and Connor Bloomfield floated a cross that hit the far post.  The post was then hit again, this time by Elliot Richards with a low effort from 20 yards that looked in until it struck the base of the upright.  A feeling of Deja-vu engulfed the watching Sholing fans, as it seemed yet again, we weren't going to capitalise on many chances created with the danger that Totton might do a smash & grab win. Coby Wilson got past two players but again his shot was always rising.  Another great chance, created by Wilson found Elliot Richards central to goal, but he toe poked it wide from 6 yards.

Then finally we scored! On 83 minutes, Coby Wilson played through Josh Oxlade on the overlap on the left wing, he cut into the area and slid the ball across the 6 yard box for Elliot Richards to hammer home.   Sholing saw out the remainder of the game quite comfortably, despite Totton having their 1st team captain playing the final few minutes.

A thoroughly well deserved win for the Reserves and reward for our attacking football.  Thanks to AFC Totton for playing the game in a sporting manner (and letting us have back the winners medals at the end!).  Also thanks to Romsey Town FC for their hospitality.

6 May 2015 - Wyvern Challenge Cup Final  Scorers :

Team: Jordan Brooks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Dan Dove, Connor Bloomfield, Josh Oxlade, Elliot Richards, Jess Walklin, Coby Wilson.  Subs : Serge Fon, Joel Drew, Les Mwenze, Tomas Halverson, Jacob Joseph

Sholing lost out in the Challenge Cup Final after missing a host of chances.  The first half especially saw the Boatmen open up Petersfield time and time again in the first 30 minutes. Coby Wilson, Josh Oxlade and Elliot Richards on two occasions put good chances either wide or over the bar when a bit of composure was required.  Petersfield then caught us out with a sucker punch goal when a header looped high over Jordan Brooks head but somehow found the top corner.  The tone of the game immediately changed & Sholing struggled to break their opponents down.  HT 0-1

The game was increasingly physical with a few late tackles from Petersfield and on 67 minutes their Number 3 was sent off after a nasty high challenge.  Elliot Richards should have scored when presented with a cross 8 yards out, but he skewed his effort horribly wide.  Serge Fon on as a sub almost scored with his first touch, but his volley was tipped over the bar.  However, with a man advantage, Sholing didn't take advantage and Petersfield kept the game scrappy and stop-start until the final whistle to lift the Challenge Cup.  FT 0-1

Sholing Reserves 0-0 AFC Portchester Reserves

15 April 2015 - Wyvern Combination Football League Scorers :

Team: Jordan Brooks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Dan Dove, Elliot Richards, Tomas Halverson, Tom Hawkins, Jess Walklin, Serge Fon.  Subs : Jamie Mansell, Connor Bloomfield, Joel Drew

After three consecutive Wyvern League Championships, Sholing had to hand over the title to AFC Portchester after failing to beat them to keep the title race alive.  Moneyfields can mathematically still catch them, but Portchester only need a point on Saturday to be sure.  Sadly, the game between the top two will be remembered more for its physical, scrappy nature instead of quality football.  Tom Hawkins had Sholing's best & only shot in the 1st half when his low effort was tipped round the base of the near post.  Jordan Brooks did well to stop a shot that took a wicked bounce in front of him on the rock hard pitch.   The second half was a bit of mess, with long stoppages, much backchat to the Referee from the visitors and increasingly tempers were flaring as Portchester saw out the game.  FT 0-0

Wasn't to be and losing a couple of games we should have won early in the season cost us.  Since Martin Tongs took over, the team has much improved, but much like the 1st team, injuries have hit them hard.  The loss of Cain Prentice for most of the second half of the season and then Macaully Smith for the run-in (30 goals between them), has blunted the attacking options.  Even last night, Josh Oxlade picked up an injury in the warm-up.

However, the team has two cup finals to look forward to and those players who have stepped up into the first team have done well. There is also much promise from a number of the younger lads in their 1st season at this level. I'm sure we'll be a stronger unit right from the start of next season.  Congrats to AFC Portchester, although worth pointing out that in three meetings between the teams this season, they failed to beat Sholing.

13 April 2015 - Wyvern Combination Football League Scorers : Jamie Mansell

Team: Jordan Brooks, Joel Drew, Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Jacob Joseph, Tomas Halverson, Connor Bloomfield, Jess Walklin, Jamie Mansell, Josh Oxlade [c]), Coby Wilson.  Subs: Elliot Richards, Tom Hawkins, Serge Fon

Sholing were denied the win they desperately wanted by an experienced, physical, Bemerton side with a number of first team players turning out for them who strangely, hadn't played for their Reserves this season.  The first half was scrappy, with some strong and late tackles and some bizarre decisions by the ref for both sides.  HT 0-0

Second half wasn't much different, but Jordan Brooks was forced into a couple of excellent saves.  Bemerton should have been reduced to 10 men when their Number 9 hacked down one of our players. He'd already been booked, but the ref bottled the red card. Sholing got a break on 70 minutes when Jamie Mansell's shot outside the area, spun up off a defender's foot and sailed over the head the keeper and into the net. Sadly, Sholing couldn't keep hold of the lead for more than 4 minutes when we failed to clear our lines and Bemerton took full advantage.  FT 1-1

Result means we have to beat Portchester on Wednesday and hope they fail to beat Bemerton on Saturday.  I doubt the Bemerton side on Saturday will be as strong as tonights with them playing a Wessex League game that day.  Tonight was disappointing, but with several players unavailable through injury and work commitments, the lads still did well against much more experienced opponents, who didn't threaten our goal much.

Sholing Reserves 5-2 Verwood Town Reserves

8 April 2015 - John Stimpson Memorial Shield Semi-Final  Scorers : Karl Littleboy, Josh Oxlade, Elliot Richards (pen), Serge Fon, Coby Wilson

Team: Jordan Brooks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Dan Dove, Connor Bloomfield, Tomas Halverson, Elliot Richards, Josh Oxlade, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Serge Fon, Joel Drew

The Boatmen battled back from 2-0 down to secure a place in the John Stimpson Memorial Shield Final, with the Wyvern Treble now a possibility for the team.  Sholing controlled the first 20 minutes and looked to be rueing a couple of glaring misses when out of nothing, the visitors scored two goals in as many minutes.  First Verwood goal was from a freekick out wide left that was fired low into the box and defelected in off Coby Wilson's heal.  Then almost from the restart, the Verwood front man bulldozed his way into the box, his shot was saved by Brooks, but it spun up into the air and the striker was able to hook it into the net.  Sholing looked shellshocked for a short while, but just before half time we scored two quick goals ourselves.  Karl Littleboy was on hand at the far stick to nod back across goal into the bottom corner.  Then on the stroke of half time, a lovely passing move ended with Josh Oxlade finding space and firing home from the edge of the box.  HT 2-2

The second half was almost one-way traffic as Sholing created a host of chances as our high tempo passing game opened up Verwood.  10 minutes in and there was an incredible moment when Dan Dove went up for a header 2 yards out, it looked a certain goal, but bizarrely it hit Josh Oxlade on the line and went wide.  Josh was having little luck as he blazed over from close range twice, once after playing a one-two with the post.  Finally with 10 minutes to go, Sholing got the deserved third goal.  Connor Bloomfield tricked his way into the box and was tripped.  Elliot Richards stroked home the penalty.  Verwood players were chasing shadows for the remainder of the match as firstly Serge Fon headed in an easy goal with his first touch after coming off the bench.  Then right at the end, Coby Wilson hammered the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.  FT 5-2

Sholing will play AFC Totton in the Final at Romsey Town FC's ground on Monday 11th May 7:45pm.

4 April 2015 - Wyvern Challenge Cup Semi-Final  Scorers : Connor Bloomfield, Coby Wilson

Team: Jordan Brooks, Joel Drew, Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Dan Dove, Connor Bloomfield, Josh Oxlade [c], Macually Smith, Jess Walklin, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Elliot Richards, Jacob Joseph, Tomas Halverson

Reserves made it through to the final of the Challenge Cup, but only a few days after an ambulance was called to the Silverlake, it happened again, this time to the unfortunate Macaully Smith.  20 minutes into the game, Macually went up for a header, but his knee buckled on the landing and the game was stopped for 10 minutes whilst he was carried off.  Later an Ambulance arrived to take him to Casualty with suspected Ligament & kneecap damage.  We wish him well for a speedy recovery. Back to the game and Sholing took the lead 5 minutes before half time when Connor Bloomfield nodded in at the far post.  The lead was quickly doubled when Coby Wilson got in behind the defence, he ran in from the left wing and with the keeper going down early, he prodded the ball inside the near post.  HT 2-0

The second half saw Portchester with the physical advantage, but were making little headway against a Sholing team that love a cleansheet and know how to defend one.  The visitors were getting increasingly frustrated and that was reflected in their challenges with a couple going into the Refs book.  With gaps opening up, Sholing had some late chances to get a third, but somewhat overplayed around the penalty area.  FT 2-0

We will face Petersfield Town in the Final at Winchester City's ground on Wednesday 6th May 7:45

Sholing Reserves 3-0 Dorchester Town Reserves

1 April 2015 - John Stimpson Memorial Shield Quarter Final.  Scorers : Own Goal, Macually Smith, Elliot Richards (pen)

Team: Jordan Brooks, Joel Drew, Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Les Mwenze, Connor Bloomfield, Josh Oxlade [c], Tom Hawkins, Macually Smith, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Elliot Richards, Jamie Mansell, Dan Dove

The Boatmen progressed to the Semi Finals in a game that was marred by a 30 minute stoppage due to a serious injury to Dorchester's Captain.  A much changed Dorchester team from the one that was easily beaten at the Silverlake a few weeks ago were still no match for the Sholing Reserves.  The first goal came on 15 minutes in bizarre fashion when a deep cross from the left wing was somehow headed back across goal by a Dorchester defender and bounced apologetically into the net when it was far easier to just nod it behind for a corner.  Sholing continued to be on top and with the Dorchester keeper looking a bit suspect, it was mostly one way traffic apart from a wild freekick from the visitors that went well over the bar.

With 8 minutes of the half remaining, Tom Hawkins went up for a header with Chris Williams the huge Dorchester centre back. Williams fell to the ground and wasn't moving & it later was revealed he was knocked clean out (accidently).  The game was suspended by the Referee for 30 minutes as Williams got attention from both management teams, plus an Ambulance was quickly called for. Thankfully, after 5 minutes with the paramedics, Williams got to his feet and walked unaided off the pitch, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.  All the best to him.  The game was restarted after a 10 minute warmup, but not surprisingly, there was little action of note before the half time whistle.  HT 1-0

The second half was a much more scrappy affair with both teams lumping it forward without much effect.  Jordan Brooks barely had a serious save to make, apart from a routine stop down by his near post.  On 80 minutes, out of nothing, Macually Smith broke clear down the right and from 15 yards out on the right side of the area, fired in a fierce shot.  Right on the final whistle, Elliot Richards was tripped in the area and he confidently put away the penalty for Sholing's third.  FT 3-0

The Semi Final is Wednesday 8th April, 7:45pm at the Silverlake Arena against Verwood Town.

Reserves gained revenge over the last team to beat us in the League, back in early December, with a comprehensive win at the Silverlake Arena.  The game was only a minute old when Josh Oxlade curled in an effort from 22 yards for a great goal.  If that was good, the goal a few minutes later was even better.  This time, Elliot Richards thumped a dipping curling effort from almost 30 yards that was in the minute it left his foot.  Elliot Richards second goal and Sholing's third was much closer in, in fact almost on the goalline as he nodded in a cross.  Sholing were making light of the heavy pitch by knocking the ball around at pace and playing some great stuff through midfield and out wide. There were countless other efforts for the home side, but out of nothing and in almost their only attack, the visitors grabbed a goal just before half time with a low skidding shot.  HT 3-1

Second half saw fewer attempts on goal as Sholing overplayed a little and Dorchester upped their game.  Things opened up more when Cain Prentice made a welcome return from injury.  He had been on the pitch only moments when he got beyond the last man, went round the keeper, but was pushed wide, but he kept his head to cut back inside a defender and finish into the corner.   He almost had a second, flashing a free header over the bar and then was denied by a last ditch clearance off the line after rounding the keeper.  FT 4-1

Team: Matt Brown, Terry New [c], Joe Griggs, Jacob Joseph, Karl Littleboy, Les Mwenze, Josh Oxlade, Tomas Halverson, Macaully Smith, Connor Bloomfield, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Elliot Richards, Owen Roundell, Royce Reed

Sholing Reserves progressed in the Wyvern Challenge Cup with a dominant display over Blackfield.  Matt Brown was given a run-out in the reserves to help his return to fitness for the first team.  New signing Royce Reed was on the bench.  We took the lead when Macaully Smith turned on the edge of the box and fired emphatically past the keeper.  Macually doubled the lead soon after as he chested down and volleyed in from 15 yards for a sweet finish.  Sholing created a host of other chances in the 1st half, but couldn't add to their lead.  Matt Brown was a virtual spectator, but when called into action, saved at point blank range for his only save of the 45.  HT 2-0

Blackfield organised themselves better in the second half, restricting Sholing, so most of the play ended up in midfield. It was only in the last 15 minutes that the Boatmen created some decent chances, and probably should have had a penalty when the keeper up-ended Coby Wilson.  Joe Griggs & Macually Smith & Coby Wilson went close with freekicks and a couple of efforts were skied over the bar from good positions.  We finally got the third when a ball into the box from Royce Reed found Owen Roundell and he finished high past the keeper, making amends for missing a sitter a few moments earlier.  FT 3-0

We are now away to Bemerton Heath Harlequins Reserves in the next round. Date to be arranged.

Sholing Reserves 3-0 Wimborne Town Reserves

24 January 2015 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Joe Griggs 2, Elliot Richards

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New [c], Joe Griggs, Jacob Joseph, Karl Littleboy, Les Mwenze, Marley Ridge, Tomas Halverson, Connor Bloomfield, Macaully Smith, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Elliot Richards, Josh Oxlade, Andy Collins-Reed

We welcomed Wimborne to the Silverlake Arena as we finally got a game at home. Having watched Wimborne play on Monday night, we had an idea of what they may bring to the game. We welcomed 2 new signings this week in Joe Griggs a left back who has been a regular member of Alrseford Wessex league side through the season but who has decided to return to us after a few months away hoping to make the step into the first team. Also, Elliott Richards who was featuring for Totton & Eling this season through what has been a difficult season for him. With both lads having previously played for me they knew what was expected and they both settled into the dressing room quickly.

ReservesWimborne1

The game kicked off and from the first whistle we were on the attack pressing Wimborne back deep into their half. As the pressure kept being applied, I felt a goal would come but some stubborn defending kept us limited to half chances and missed placed efforts and I began to think it would be one of those days... until a move down our left side resulted in the ball being played to Joe Griggs who was supporting the move from left back as he beat a Wmborne defender he unleashed a fine effort from the edge of the box across goal and into the net past the diving keeper. At last we had the lead on 26mins. We kept pressing and Matt Fredericks' only touches of the ball in the whole half were 4 clearances from back passes our defence never looked troubled. Half time came and we could not believe it was only 1-0 neither could Wimborne as we went in. HT 1-0

The second half started much the same with constantly pressuring the goal. On 55 minutes we made our first change bringing off the injured Macaully Smith and Elliott Richards came on and put a fresh approach into the front line. On 65 minutes he got fouled on the edge of the box with Coby and Joe Griggs eyeing up a left foot effort, Joe stepped up to curl a great shot into the top left corner 2-0. Although we were totally dominating the game it was always that fear they may sneak a breakaway goal. On 67 mins we changed Marley Ridge for Josh Oxlade and on 75 Andy Collins-Reed came on for Karl Littleboy.

After some great work up top, Elliott Richards got his rewards with his first goal for the club on 82 mins as he broke free of the last defender and finished well past the keeper. It capped off impressive debuts for the two new signings and sealed a good win that keeps us on top of the league. Although other teams have games in hand, they have still to play us.  FT 3-0

AFC Totton Reserves 1-2 Sholing Reserves

17 January 2015 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Macaully Smith, Coby Wilson

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Jacob Joseph, Dan Dove, Les Mwenze, Josh Oxlade, Macually Smith, Connor Bloomfield, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Marley Ridge, Tom Moore, Mihai Gabriel

After what has seemed an eternity, we finally resumed our league schedule against our local rivals Totton. We welcomed back Liam Golding, Macaully Smith, Josh Oxlade and Owen Roundell from their games involved with the first team squad over the busy Christmas period.

As the game started we looked very bright and put some very passing moves together but on 4 minutes the game was stopped with a nasty injury to Dan Dove who had kicked the bottom of the boot of a Totton player and when I arrived to tend to him blood was coming out of his boot. We stretchered him off with some concern. Marley Ridge was brought on and the game restarted and Totton took the initiative and on 10 minutes took the lead. We then seemed to focus back on our game and on 14 minutes Macaully Smith stuck a fine goal to level things up.

After 20 minutes of tending to Dan Dove I came back to pitch-side to find the game very evenly matched. Although we looked the more competent football side, but we seemed to be timid in the tackle. Deep into injury time, Coby Wilson cut in from the right of the Totton box and drove a low left footed effort wide of the keeper into the bottom left of the Totton goal and we felt it was the lead we deserved. Half time came and we addressed a few issues and refocused the side on how much the game meant and if we matched their aggression we would win the game. HT 1-2

The second half started and we were much the better side creating numerous chances but converting none of them which gave Totton hope as long as there was only 1 goal in it. We soaked up a lot of pressure as Totton knew the clock was running down, but with a good solid defensive performance and some dogged work in the midfield from Josh Oxlade and Les Mwenze, we saw the game out. With the chances that we created, the score line flatters Totton as we know we need to improve in front of goal.  With Cain Prentice looking on we will be welcoming him back to training this week and lets hope he can feature soon.  FT 1-2

We all wish Dan a speedy recovery as he due to go back to hospital to be reassessed by a specialist as he may have broken bone and sustained ligament damage. Best wishes Dan

Sholing Reserves 3-2 Alton Town Reserves

20 December 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Josh Oxlade 2, Jamie Craven

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Lewis Fear, Dan Dove, Connor Bloomfield, Josh Oxlade, Macaully Smith, Marley Ridge, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Jake Davis, Jamie Craven, Ben Hillman.

On a bright and breezy afternoon at the Silverlake we found our squad smaller than ever due to some many of the Uni Lads going home for the holiday and illness ravaging what was left. So, it was a side that was little square pegs in round holes, but we knew we face this at some point. With the comfort of knowing Alton were out of the competiton, we knew as long as we did our bit we would qualify for the next stage and not need to go to Newport and get a result which was a good incentive for us.

The game started well and we dominated possession for long spells and created a few good chances which we felt could be our downfall and sure enough on 39 minutes a bad defensive back pass let in Alton to make it 1-0 as Matt Fredericks was left 1 on 1 and couldn't do any better for what was a bad goal to concede and just before halftime. HT 0-1

Halftime came and a few harsh words were said. Everyone knew we had to step our game up if we wanted to get anything out of it. We started the second half really brightly we started to look the much better side on 50 minutes Marley Ridge (who had made a great debut) made way for Jamie Craven. Craven almost instantly linked up with Josh Oxlade to make it 1-1.  Alton knew they were going to face a lot of pressure and kept clearing long and as a long clearance was returned deep into their half Jamie Craven raced clear to chip over the keeper 2-0 on 63 mins. It looked like we would go on and get more, but credit to Alton they pressed and another defensive error let them in 2-2 on 83mins. As the clock ticked away, we felt we would be made to pay for the missed chances, but Coby sprinted down the left and delivered a great cross and as the ball was knocked in the linesman gave a very contentious decision to disallow the goal.  With 3 minutes of added time to be played we pressed determined to get some justice and on 92 minutes Josh Oxlade was free at the back post and drilled the ball in for the winner.  4 goals in 2 games for our midfield maestro who is starting to get his fitness together since his arrival from Follands.  All in all, the right result for a totally dominate performance, but we must be more clinical. FT 3-2

Petersfield Town Reserves 0-2 Sholing Reserves

13 December 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Josh Oxlade 2

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Joseph Jacob, Lewis Fear, Les Mwenze, Josh Oxlade, Tomas Halverson, Alex Baldacchino, Macaully Smith, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Karl Littleboy, Owen Roundell, Dan Dove.

We travelled to Love Lane Petersfield, full of confidence from our previous game to find a pitch that looked like a ploughed field. Although we kept telling the lads it was the same for both teams we knew we would struggle to get our passing game going. The game started very brightly for us and we had good early possession and on 8 minutes Coby Wilson broke down the left and delivered a perfect cross for Josh Oxlade to slot home 1-0. As the pitch got more and more cut up, Petersfield adapted better and as we continued to slide around we lost our way. However, with a strong centre pairing of Les Mwenze and Tomas Halvorsen starting to impose themselves, we again got the upper hand. With Alex Baldicchino and Macaully Smith continually working their back line we felt unlucky to go in only 1 goal to the good  HT 0-1

We spoke about our tempo and it would only be a mistake that would let them in. We started the second half strongly and on 66 minutes Josh Oxlade found himself free at the back of the goal and calmly made it 2-0 and as the game ran down we consolidated and saw out a good win on an awful pitch. A job well done on a tricky afternoon. FT 0-2

Sholing Reserves 2-1 Team Solent Reserves

6 December 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Connor Bloomfield, Alex Baldacchino

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Joseph Jacob, Andy Collins-Reed, Jess Walklin, Jamie Craven, Connor Bloomfield, Alex Baldacchino, Macaully Smith, Coby Wilson. Subs: Les Mwenze, Anthony Giles, Dan Dove.

On a cold afternoon, we welcomed Team Solent to the Silverlake Arena for a top of the table clash and one we needed to win to put us back in the mix.  The game started brightly and as to be expected a few tasty tackles were flying in. The first half seemed to fly by as both sides went at each other with no end product and not a lot of pattern to the game. Too many players seemed to be playing as individuals and as we went into the changing rooms the team spirit didn’t seem to be there.  HT 0-0

A few words were spoken and plans were reset. Set pieces reorganised and out we went. From the off, we looked a different team, pressing high up the pitch and with much more tempo to our game. We got our reward on 56 mins as the ball broke to Connor Bloomfield 25 yards out and he confidently drilled a shot low past an out stretched keeper.  We continued to dominate but at 1-0 we were never safe. However, a bit of magic from Alex Baldacchino changed that. He jinxed past two defenders and lifted the ball up and over the keeper from a tight angle from the left of the goal to make 2-0 on 64 minutes.  Solent realising they faced defeat made changes and went 3 up top but credit to our lads who defended very well kept them at bay. Until on 85 minutes a low cross was delivered and to our entire teams amazement a goal was allowed from what looked like a Maradonna hand of god moment!  Thankfully, we saw the game out and got the 3 points we deserved a great second half performance by all. FT 2-1

Dorchester Town Reserves 1-0 Sholing Reserves

2 December 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers :

Team: Matt Fredericks, Liam Golding, Thomas Moore, Joseph Jacob, Anthony Giles, Les Mwenze [c], Jamie Craven, Dan Dove, Jordan Gallagher, Tomas Halverson, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Connor Bloomfield, Terry New, Macaully Smith

On a cold clear evening we set off to Dorchester and with half the squad arriving late due to a traffic problem we got started. The game played out pretty much 50/50 until half time with neither keeper really being troubled and most off the game being played out in midfield. Half time couldn’t come soon enough for us HT 0-0

The second half got underway and carried on much the same, with unfortunately our keeper being the busier of the two. As the game seemed to be drifting towards a draw, Dorchester won a corner deep into injury time and as it was swung in Matt Fredericks made a great save to concede another corner. As we shaped up, the ball was played into the near post and a glancing header flew into the net. 93 minutes of hard work undone by a lack of concentration right at the end all of us could not believe it. Absolutely gutted to say the least  FT 1-0

Wimborne Town Reserves 1-2 Sholing Reserves

22 November 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Macaully Smith, Josh Oxlade

Team: Matt Fredericks, Joseph Jacob, Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Jess Walklin, Connor Bloomfield, Josh Oxlade [c], Jordan Gallagher, Macaully Smith, Coby Wilson. Subs: Tom Moore, Dan Dove, Andy Collins-Reed

We travelled to the Cuthbury having had a little lay-off from games due to the weather and fixture lists and it showed as we got off to a slow start. The game settled down to a slow tempo which suited Wimborne and on 34minutes we were made to pay. Wimborne cleared a long hopefull ball upfield and as the ball ran down the slope Matt Fredericks made an error in coming out as the Wimborne forward raced through. He clipped it by Matt and drove a low shot from wide at the goal and as Owen Roundell slid in, he could do no more than to help the ball into the net.

We took the restart and it seemed to spark us into life. We pressed them back to their box and from a long clearance, we picked the ball up in our own half, the ball was passed into midfield and a long pass to wide left found Coby Wilson in full flight. He passed his fullback and delivered a quality cross to find Macaully Smith who volleyed in the equaliser on 38mins and from then on we totally dominated the game. HT 1-1

Half time came at the right time for Wimborne and they could regroup. We started the second half on the front foot and on 60min we changed our shape to give us more energy. Tom Moore came on for Jacob Joseph and Dan Dove came on to strengthen the midfield. Connor Bloomfield went up top. Josh Oxlade moved wide right. We carried on dominating the game and on 81 minutes Josh Oxlade picked up the ball and drove towards the box he unleashed a fierce shot across the keeper into the top of the net. We managed to see out the last few minutes of Wimborne route one tactics to seal a well deserved win at a place that is always a difficult to get a result. FT 1-2

Moneyfields Reserves 1-3 Sholing Reserves

5 November 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers : Alex Baldacchino, Macaully Smith, Tobi Adekunle

Team: Lee Webber, Terry New [c], Liam Golding, Andy Collins-Reed (Connor Bloomfield), Owen Roundell, Jess Walklin, Tobi Adekunle, Josh Oxlade (Jacob Joseph), Alex Baldacchino, Macaully Smith, Coby Wilson

We travelled to Portsmouth on Bonfire night and as always, we anticipated a fiery encounter and we were not disappointed. As the game kicked off the sky was full off fireworks and you could hardly hear yourself think, but as the game started we got off at a good tempo getting into good areas but not threatening their keeper. As frustration set in to a few of the squad, we lost our shape and allowed Moneys to gain the upper hand and we struggled to contain a lively forward line. On 40 minutes the pressure told, as a long ball wasn’t dealt with and a misjudgement allowed their forward to get on the end of a misplaced clearance and speed through on goal. Lee Webber was left 1 on 1 and we found ourselves 1 down just before the break. We settled down and saw out the half but with both our centre back and centre midfielder picking up a caution we knew it would be difficult to match them on the physical side as the referee was making it hard for us to tackle and constantly awarding free kicks. HT 1-0

We regrouped and after some stern words and reminders of what we had worked on in training. We went out again and started very brightly pressing high up the pitch and looking far the better side until on 55minutes we again found Webby 1 on 1 but this time he pulled off a fine save to keep us in the game. On 65 minutes we decided to make a double changed replacing debutant Josh Oxlade with Connor Bloomfield and Andy Collins-Reed with Jacob Joseph and with the new energy on the pitch we upped the tempo and pushed Moneys deeper into their half.  With eight minutes remaining, Alex Baldacchino found himself in good space inside the box and with a fine right foot effort drilled a shot past the full stretched keeper. At last we felt happier, but credit to the lads who didn’t want a draw could smell blood and pushed for the winner. On 88 minutes, Tobi Adekunle got past his full back and drilled a low cross into the box and as the defender went to clear the ball he shanked in past the keeper with Macaully Smith claiming the final touch. Still not satisfied the lads pushed forward and with the advice from our training session and halftime talk another quality cross from Coby Wilson found Tobi Adekunle unmarked and from 8 yards he smashed a right foot shot into the roof of the net. That was it, game over and a devastated Moneyfields looked shell shocked having snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. FT 1-3  Happy days for us in Portsmouth Well Done Lads

Blackfield & Langley Reserves 1-5 Sholing Reserves

25 October 2014 - Wyvern Shield.  Scorers : Macaully Smith 2, Jordan Gallagher 2, Jacob Joseph

Team: Matt Fredericks, Joseph Jacob, Laim Golding, Owen Roundell, Karl Littleboy, Andy Collins-Reed, Terry New, Dan Dove, Jordan Gallagher, Macaully Smith, Conner Bloomfield. Subs: Pat Jesiolowski, Lewis Fear, Ben Hillman

On Saturday we travelled to Gang Warily with another much changed squad having been hit with injuries and players unable to change work commitments. However, still full of confidence, we went into the game with Andy Collins-Reed and Karl Littleboy making their debuts at centre back and centre mid respectively. Blackfield won the toss and changed ends to take advantage of a strong wind blowing end to end but almost from the kick off the ball was played through the middle to Jordan Gallagher who held the ball up and found Jacob Joseph on the over lap and as he broke into the box from the right he shot across the keeper and on 2mins we went ahead. Blackfield restarted and looking shell shocked they conceded possession and a ball was played into Jordan Gallagher’s feet he neatly turned his defender and struck a shot past there keeper 2-0 on 3 minutes. It was a dream start for the lads, but in a way it didn’t help us and we started to over play and looked to score that special goal and make that Hollywood pass. As Blackfield retreated with everyone behind the ball, we struggled to break them down and kept losing possesion which helped them to start to play a bit. On 40 mins, a soft foul was conceded from which a long diagonal was played left and a cross was delivered and from there first real effort we conceded a poor goal having dominated for so long. HT 1-2

Half time came and with that late wake up call, we came out firing putting Blackfield back under pressure creating numerous chances on 56 minutes the pressure told and Macaully Smith gave us the cushion we needed 3-1 on 60 minutes. Andy Colllins-Reed was replaced in a straight swap for Lewis Fear and on 65minutes we changed Karl Littleboy for another debut lad Pat Jesiolowski making the step up from the u18 squad. Another u18 player Connor Bloomfield moved into centre mid and straight away started playing great through balls and passing with ease to get us playing some lovely football. On 75 mins Connor took the ball wide and crossed to find Macaully Smith on the edge of the box and with a fine finish from 18 yards hit the roof of the net 4-1. We continued to dominate and with the game almost over, Jordan Gallagher picked the ball up in the D and after beating his defender calmly sent the keeper the wrong way to get a well deserved goal. After some strong hold up play and a very powerful performance 5-1 it finished and we move on with some selection headaches when everyone is back and fit to play. FT 1-5

Sholing Reserves 2-1 Horndean Reserves

18 October 2014 - Wyvern Shield.  Scorers : Macaully Smith, Cain Prentice

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New, Liam Golding, Lewis Fear, Adrian Grijincu, Jess Walklin, Jamie Craven, Dan Dove, Cain Prentice, Macaully Smith, Josh West.  Subs: Sean Tollervey, Owen Roundell, Callum Parker

With the weather doing its best to disrupt our game through the week, the clouds broke up and we welcomed a strong Horndean side to the Silverlake Arena. We reverted back to a more solid 4-4-1-1 With Jess Walklin returning from a mid week run out with the first team and Adrian “Victor” Grijincu making his first start of the campaign. In what is always a spicy encounter, the game started lively with strong challenges going in from both sides and after some fancy footwork going around three Horndean players, Macaully Smith was in the box only to get brought down by a Horndean defender. Macca picked himself up spotted the the ball and with a confident strike sent the keeper the wrong way on 7 mins.

This only fired Horndean even more and almost straight from the kick off we conceded a free kick 22yards out Matt lined up his wall but with a tremendous strike into the top corner Horndean were level with 9 mins. With the whole side pulling together, we played some super football and as the game went on we grew in strength and confidence. The Horndean keeper became their best player, pulling off 3 top drawer saves. From a corner on 34 mins the ball got cleared to Terry New and he delivered a great ball to the far post to pick out Cain Prentice who headed in HT 2-1

We went into half time and all we could say to the lads was keep doing the same and keep the tempo high. The second half started as we finished, pressing and keeping possession very well. On 60 mins we made our first change Victor off and Owen Roundell going into the centre of defence alongside Lewis Fear but as time ticked by Horndean started to go direct putting 3 men up top. However, our young centre pairing stayed strong and dealt with everything that was thrown at them. On 83 mins Macca Smith was forced to come off with an injury and Sean Tollervey went on and as probably the smallest player on the pitch, put some fantastic challenges in and coming away with the ball. The game closed out, our fitness proved its worth as we got to every ball first and achieved a very good result. FT 2-1 - Well done to all! - MT

Sholing Reserves 1-3 Cadnam United

15 October 2014 - Hampshire Intermediate Cup.  Scorer : Cain Prentice

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New, Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Lewis Fear, Jacob Joseph, Josh West, Callum Parker, Cain Prentice, Jordan Gallagher, Coby Wilson.  Subs: Connor Bloomfield, Jake Hoole, Jack Fisher, Jake Davis.

On a wet and windy night at the Silverlake Arena we came up against a physical Cadnam side who seemed to relish the thought of playing on a great surface that we have here. It was a lift that we never matched from the outset. With a young side, we spoke how important it is to not concede set pieces in vital areas against a strong side, but with the first one we found ourselves defending a ball drilled in from the right and with runners flooding into the box a Cadnam player got a flick on and we were 1-0 down on 20mins. We steadied ourselves and started to play our game but as many lesser sides do, we found our back four being bombarded with long balls and we couldn’t get our pressing game going. After a fine move, Jordan Gallagher hit the cross bar from 18yards a game changer as we were starting to ask questions of them. In added on time to the 1st half, a scuffed clearance dropped to Cadnams right back who hit a ball into the centre of our penalty box and after a bit of a scramble was the second goal to the visitors.  HT 0-2

After a stern half time talk, we came out and showed some great character for a much changed side. On 60 mins a corner was swung in and Owen Roundell connected with it and everybody in the ground rose thinking it had crossed the line for a goal, but the ref saw it different. This seemed to spur us on and as Cadnam ran out of steam it looked more likely we could get something and on 75 mins Cain Prentice nodded the ball in from close range. We continued to press having chance after chance to no avail. With only minutes on the clock we put men forward and with a long hopeful punt Cadnams lone striker found himself one on one with Matt Fredericks who did as much as he could but couldn’t stop them scoring. FT 1-3 - A very disappointing result that highlighted to our youngsters the need to start straight away and not let teams get a foothold as we all know Sholing is a big scalp at any level - MT

Sholing Reserves 4-0 Ringwood Town Reserves

11 October 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers: Jamie Craven 2, Cain Prentice, Callum Parker.

Team: Matt Fredericks, Terry New, Kane Crisp, Owen Roundell, Lewis Fear, Jess Walklin, Jamie Craven, Dan Dove, Cain Prentice, Macaully Smith, Tobi Adekunle.  Subs: Liam Golding, Josh West, Callum Parker.

After prolonged heavy rain the game was looking doubtful but with a little work to the goal mouths by Stephan the game was given the go ahead. Wary of over confidence from our performance against Totton we tried to settle the lads and make sure we came out the blocks early and put Ringwood on the back foot.

With almost our first attack Toby broke down the left and beat his fullback to deliver a superb cross which Jamie Craven met and finished with a fine right foot effort from close range on 4 mins. We continued to press and playing a new 4-3-3 formation it was giving licence for our wide men to torment the Ringwood fullbacks. On 12 mins Jamie “JC” Craven broke down the right and delivered a ball for Cain Prentice to dispatch and make it 2-0. We continued to dominate the game but with a slight over confidence we started to try too much and lost our shape for a while with the new formation, but on 23 mins JC weaved a bit of magic and with a fine solo effort.  HT 3-0

With the game becoming increasingly easier, Ringwood heads were dropping at half time we spoke that we needed to use this half to get to know the system and make sure we kept a clean sheet. On 56 mins we made a double change Cain Prentice and Jess Walklin off and Josh West and Callum Parker on, and with immediate effect Callum Parker picked the ball up in the middle of the park and drove forward and from 25yards drove a fierce right foot shot across the keeper and into the bottom left corner. We carried on pressing but to Ringwoods credit they defended until the end as did we and kept a clean sheet which is always important. FT 4-0 - Another good performance and great attitude by all - MT

Sholing Reserves 5-0 AFC Totton Reserves

4 October 2014 - Wyvern Combination Football League.  Scorers: Alex Baldacchino 2, Dan Mason 2, Macaully Smith

Team: Matt Fredericks, Dan Dove, Lewis Fear, Terry New, Liam Golding, Owen Roundell, Macaully Smith, Jamie Craven, Alex Baldacchino, Dan Mason, Tobi Adekunle.  Subs: Jack Fisher, Cain Prentice, Coby Wilson

A game we always look forward to came on the back of a very disappointing game at Bemerton that we lost 2-1 with a much changed side. We started brightly and with the added quality of Alex Baldicchino and Dan Mason up top top we kept Totton on the back foot. With long spells of possesion we finally got the breakthrough with a fine strike from Macaully Smith on 27mins. Almost immediately from the restart we regained possession and with patient build up play Alex “Baldi” found himself in the box and with quick feet gained a yard of space and slotted a fine goal. We lost our way a little and Totton came more into the game never really threatening our goal but it took until 42 mins before another bit of Baldacchino quality to score the third. HT 3-0

We came out strong and with the first team lads putting in some great work and linking up well with the more regular ressy lads. After a great run by Jamie Craven, a cross in from the right was met by Dan Mason to make it 4-0 on 51mins. We made our first change on 60mins with Toby Adekunle making way for Coby Wilson and almost immediately with fresh legs running at them Dan Mason was set up for his 2nd goal on 62mins to make it 5-0. A well beaten Totton were then shaping up just to limit the damage on 71mins we changed Alex Baldi for Cain Prentice who came on and tormented the Totton back four and was unlucky not to get a goal. With the game almost done we brought on a future player in Jack Fisher who is definately one to watch just to start to get a feel of what he can expect in the coming months.  FT 5-0 - A good response after a difficult game from the previous week - Martin Tongs.
