Despite the game taking place on Valentines Day, there was not much love in evidence in a scrappy, niggly game where Bemerton had a player sent off in the 1st half and the game was decided by Dan Mason's second half penalty.

Team News: Saturday’s youngsters didn’t feature with Jean-Luc Ramdin away at Carrington with England U18 school boys and Owen Royl was rested. Corey Cherrett replaced Jean-Luc, Barry & Byron Mason both returned with Jake Hoole stepping down to the bench.

In what was a scrappy opening period, Bemerton picked up two early cautions for skipper Jackson and Sam Griffin, Griffin’s challenge on Corey Cherrett was a stamp to the defenders leg and escaped with a yellow card. Cherrett could not continue after treatment and was replaced by Jake Hoole with Alex Sawyer reverting to full back. The next talking point came when Jake Burgess was dismissed by referee Osofa on 32 minutes, a decision that incensed Bemerton.

Five minutes later Lee Wort had the chance to open the scoring, but hit his shot over the Bemerton bar. Two minutes later the referee continued with his discipline when Dan Miller was cautioned for just the third time in his career, even though he appeared to win the ball. Despite a host of stoppages, just 1 minute was added before the referee brought a halt to the half where very little creative football had been allowed to ensue. HT 0-0

Two minutes into the second half Lee Wort’s half chance saw him hook the ball over his shoulder and also just over Jason Collins bar. Next it was leading scorer Dan Mason to test the keeper, who pulled off a good save to deny a fierce shot. The ball came back to Dan Mason, but his follow-up skewed wide of the far post.

On fifty five minutes the deadlock against the ten men was finally broken when DAN MASON tried to turn in the box but was hauled down. The striker got up and scored his 35th goal of the season despite Jason Collins guessing right and getting a full hand to the strikers spot kick he could only help the ball into the net.

Bemerton continued to collect yellow cards when Greg Horlock (67 mins) Elliott Cross (74 mins) Jordan Cole (77 mins)

On seventy four minutes both managers introduced fresh legs Graham Kemp brought on his leading scorer Scott Joyce for the cautioned Cross and Barry Mason made way for Zac Mouland. Mouland was very quickly in action when he was set up by Marvin McLean but again it was Collins who denied the Sholing player.

Despite being down to 10 men, Bemerton still caused a threat going forward, working themselves a couple of good openings, but each time scuffing the finish straight to Gosney.  The best chance was a flick header from a freekick, but once again, it was straight into the keeper's arms.

As the game drifted into stoppage time Jake Hoole hit the byline and picked out striker Lee Wort who headed the ball down and the bounce took the ball just over Collins crossbar. FT 1-0
