Boatmen were narrowly defeated by Gosport Borough to exit the Hampshire Senior Cup. 9 players aged 21 or younger featured for Sholing and gave a very good account of themselves against a side from the league above us.

Dave Diaper was in charge for the 1,111th time, but was without Dan Mason, Brad Targett, Conor Whiteley, Dan Miller & Stu Green. Byron was on the bench, but wasn't going to come on. Luke Deacon started in goal, with the experience of Marv, Rob & Claudio in the team to assist the younger & inexperienced players.

Gosport took the lead on 33 minutes with a fortunate goal as Lethbridge's cross from the right looped and dipped over Deacon and in off the far post. Earlier, Claudio & Jake Cope had shots just off target in an even first half.  HT 1-0

Sholing brought on Josh China for his debut for the restart and we came agonisingly close to scoring when Jake Cope hit a terrific 25 yard freekick that left the keeper watching as it hit the inside of the post, bounced across the 6 yard box and Sholing were unable to force in the loose ball.  Boatmen were level soon after, Charlie Wagstaffe recyled the ball and after it deflected off a couple of Gosport defenders, it dropped to JOE ADAMS on the edge of the area to hit a sweet volley for his 2nd goal in as many games.  Unfortunately,  the joy was short lived as 2 minutes later, Gosport were back in front, with Lethbridge curling in a decent effort after cutting in from the right.   Martin Buckland went close and Luke Deacon made a couple of fine saves, but Sholing tasted defeat for the first time this season, although there were plenty of positives to take from such a young squad. FT 2-1
