Kev Brewster provided five assists as the Boatmen scored five late goals against a battling Chamberlayne Athletic to progress to the Soton Senior Cup Quarter Final.  The final scoreline was harsh on the Southampton Premier League side (4 divisions below Sholing) who went long spells matching the Boatmen, although they tired considerably in the last 15 mins to let the floodgates open.

In front of a decent sized crowd, with Sholing in blue & white, the game got underway on a hard pitch, which produced some uneven bounces throughout. Sholing took the lead on 6 minutes when a corner was recycled to Kev Brewster to cross for DAN MILLER to score with an unchallenged header.  Chamberlayne lost their right back to injury soon after and were unfortunate to concede a second goal on 14 mins when the ball ricocheted in off JAKE HOOLE.  Chamberlayne had a couple of chances to score, partly down to some wayward clearances by Gosney, but they were unable to take advantage. On 33 mins, Sholing had their third when Dan Mason controlled the ball with his back to goal and laid it off into the path of BRAD TARGETT who sidefooted into the bottom corner from 15 yards.  HT 3-0

For 30 minutes of the second half, there wasn't an awful lot between the sides as Sholing overplayed a bit going forward and Chamberlayne were quick to close down and defended well.  They weren't able to test Gosney in goal, but showed a lot of heart and some nice touches in midfield, but the effort put in was to catch up with them as the superior fitness of the Wessex League Leaders saw them score at will in the final 18 minutes.

On 72 mins, Brewster's corner was nodded down and past the man on the line by DAN MILLER.  The inevitable goal for DAN MASON arrived on 75 when Brewy's whipped in right wing cross found D-Dan unmarked 12 yards out to head into an empty net with the keeper apparently injured, but the goal stood.  Dan Miller came very close to a hat-trick when his header was kicked off the line, but from the next corner, LEE WORT nodded in Brewster's corner at the near post.

Brad Targett had a prodded effort go over the line before the keeper could claw it out, but the officials waved play on and within seconds, BRAD TARGETT had one that did count as he swept in a cross from... yes, you guessed it, Kev Brewster.  Chamberlayne were out on their feet and Sholing were able to ping the ball around at ease and did so to great effect on 88 mins to send LEE WORT into the box to thump high into the net his 34th of the season.   It was the Boatmen's 6th consecutive clean sheet and they've now scored 124 goals in all competitions this season.  Sholing will be at home to Bush Hill in the Quarter Final on Tuesday 29 January. FT 8-0
