Lee Wort scored four second half goals as the Boatmen continued their high scoring start to the season.  A strong Sholing line-up were too much for Hampshire League side, QK Soton, who worked hard for each other and never gave up.  However, it was Sholing who advanced in the Southampton Senior Cup.

Team News : Dave Diaper resisted any thoughts of resting players ahead of Saturday's big game and put out a strong line-up, with Kevin Brewster getting his first start of the season and Ryan Mackney and Billy Connor also looking to take their chance to impress.

As expected, given the gap in relative positions between the two teams, Sholing dominated straight from the off, but after wasting a few chances, took until the 18th minute to get the breakthrough.  Byron Mason kept the ball alive out on the right, held off his marker and delivered a low cross into the near post where OWEN ROUNDELL met it with a flick past the keeper and inside the upright.

Second goal came on 27 minutes as Bradley Targett broke clear and was tripped as he entered the box for a penalty. DAN MASON fired in the spot kick to the keeper's right.   On 33 minutes, Kev Brewster sent a 25 yard freekick over the wall, but it thudded back off the bar, with Dan unable to nod in the rebound.   However, he was soon on the scoresheet for the 21st time this season when TJ Cuthbertson picked him out with a right wing cross and DAN MASON thumped it first time with the outside of his foot past the keeper.  HT 3-0

LEE WORT replaced D-Dan at half time and was straight into the action on 53 minutes as Brad Targett drew the keeper and unselfishley squared the ball to Wort for a tap in.   6 minutes later and LEE WORT had another as he charged down an attempted clearance from the keeper, with the ball running clear for him to run onto and slot into the empty net.

BRAD TARGETT was causing QK problems all game with his pace in behind them and after his two earlier assists, grabbed a deserved goal for himself on 72 minutes to make it 6-0.  Brad burst into the right channel and from 15 yards out, fired a shot across the keeper that went in off the far post for his 3rd goal of the season.

A host of chances came and went for the Boatmen, but also QK created a very good chance themselves when a decent right wing cross picked out their player 6 yards out, but he planted a free header over the bar.   With the visitors tiring, Sholing hit goals 7 & 8 in the space of a minute and the finishes were almost carbon copies of each other. It was LEE WORT who got both of them, firstly on 86 minutes, robbing a defender outside the box before drilling his shot through the keeper's legs.  Then a minute later, WORT was played in behind and once again, drilled a fiercely hit shot through the keeper to rack up goal number 18 of the campaign.   Final score was perhaps hard on QK, but Sholing continue their fine form, hitting 54 goals this season, with 9 clean sheets.  All attention now moves to the FA Vase trip to Torpoint on Saturday.  FT 8-0

Next Game :  Torpoint Athletic v Sholing - Saturday 13 October 3pm - FA Vase
