A frustrating game, that overall, probably deserved to finish even. However, a penalty decision in favour of the home side was the main talking point from the match that saw Sholing extend their unbeaten run to eleven matches and keeps them third in the Wessex Premier.

Team News: Sholing made one enforced change from the midweek win over Hamworthy United with Jamie Bulpitt serving a one match ban Jack Smith stepped up from the bench. FA Youth Cup goal hero Jean-Luc Ramdin was called in to the squad.

Sholing kicked off on a chilly but bright autumnal day and immediately put Bashley on the back foot with Duncan Brown putting a ball deep into the Bashley corner with Dan Thompson clearing it for a throw in and from the throw Jack Smith had his cross cut out. With Sholing keeping up the pressure Marvin McLean was making inroads down the left side and linked up with Lee Wort who feed Kevin Brewster but his cross was cut out by Mike Edgar. In the opening exchanges Sholing were moving the ball well through the middle of the park and creating all the chances with TJ having his effort cleared then next it was Jack Smith but the midfielder mishit his shot.

Bashley had their first opportunity with Kabba Jack cutting inside but lost the ball but managed to win it back and feed Conor Whiteley who found Lewis Ross but Marvin McLean defended the ball out. Then on fourteen minutes Bashley felt they should have had a penalty when Kabba Jack went down inside the box under a challenge from Dan Miller but referee Moisey waved away the Bashley appeals. Ryan Gosney was first called into action after seventeen minutes when he easily saved Lewis Ross’s shot.

Sholing again began to dominate the play Marvin McLean wins another corner Barry Mason returns the ball to Kevin Brewster who finds Duncan Brown who cannot connect fully with his header. Marvin McLean again picks out Lee Wort who picks out TJ and his cross find Dan Mason but is adjudged offside. Bashley were denied by Duncan Brown’s block on Lewis Ross’s effort.

On twenty seven minutes Sholing were rewarded for their pressure when Barry Mason’s low right wing cross picked out brother DAN MASON who 10 yards out, connected first time with a scissor kick to beat Bashley keeper Mike Edgar and find the bottom corner.

A minute later Sholing were denied a second goal when Marvin McLean picked out Lee Wort who had his shot saved by the feet of keeper Edgar. Marvin McLean again picked out Dan Mason who chested the ball down swivelled and puts his shot over the Bashley bar. On the half hour Ryan Gosney was called into action again to block Conor Whiteley’s shot and Dan Miller clears the loose ball.

Barry Mason is fouled twenty yards out Kevin Brewster’s free kick finds the head of Dan Mason but fails to find the target. Byron Mason’s cross finds Lee Wort who challenges with the keeper and gets injured in the process after receiving treatment Sholing are awarded a corner after the referee consulted with his assistant. Sholing win a series of corners with Kevin Brewster first finding Duncan Brown then Dan Miller both result in corners. This time Kevin Brewster finds TJ whose header is cleared to Barry Mason who hits his shot over the bar.

At the other end Ryan Gosney saves Conor Whiteley’s snap shot. Bashley look to finish the half the stronger chasing an equaliser. HT: 0-1

Bash004

Seven minutes into the half the game is turned on its head when Kabba Jack goes down in the penalty area whilst heading away from goal and being shadowed by Barry Mason. No appeals are made, however referee Moisey points to the spot to everyone’s amazement. Lewis Ross places the spot down the middle of the goal as Ryan Gosney dives to his right.

Following the penalty both Barry & Byron Mason receive a yellow from referee Moisey for disputing the decision. Three minutes later Bashley Brad Morris receives a yellow card for pulling back Jack Smith. Then Jack Smith himself becomes the third Sholing player to receive a yellow card following his challenge on Harry McGrath. Lee Wort goes close with a header from Kevin Brewster’s corner. Kappa Jack gets a talking to from the ref after appearing to go down too easily outside the box.

Sholing's best chance of the half comes when Marvin McLean crosses deep to Lee Wort, who guides his header back across the keeper and towards the far post, where Dan Mason can't force it past the defender. At the other end Harry McGrath got in a shot which Jack Smith manage to get in the way taking the ball full in the face. In the closing stages of the game Bashley, who were better in possession than an often wasteful Sholing, made another appeal for a penalty when Lewis Ross ran into Duncan Brown and went to ground but referee Moisey waived away the Bashley claims. FT: 1-1
