17 August - Wim-away-a-Wim-away

WimborneGroundSholing make the trip down to Dorset on Tuesday night to face Wimborne Town (7:45KO). After three games, both sides have identical records having won one & drawn two, but even the goals for & against are the same too. The Magpies recently drew 0-0 with newly promoted Wantage Town, although by all accounts they should have comfortably won that game.  Their first win of the season was against Larkhall, but also got an impressive draw away at early promotion favourites, Merthyr. Sholing will be sweating on injuries to Barry Mason & Sam Olaofe, who were both forced off on Saturday after heavy challenges (putting it mildly).

Wimborne's ground is behind the Hospital on the narrow Cowgrove Road.  It's 40 miles from Eastern Southampton via the M27 & A31. Just past Ferndown, take the roundabout exit onto the B3073 & into Wimborne Town Centre, follow Park Lane, East Street & King Street (B3082) and turn left just past the Hospital into Cowgrove Road with the ground on your left.  For Sat-Nav the post code is BH21 4EL.

Admission prices are £9 for adults, Concessions £5 and Under 16's £2.  Sholing will play in Yellow

We have also had it confirmed that our game on Bank Holiday Monday at AFC Totton will kick off at 3pm.

Bristol Manor Farm won 3-2 at Petersfield Town to be our opponents in the FA Cup.  Tie will be played weekend of the 30th August at the Silverlake Arena, but the exact day & time has yet to be confirmed. News will appear here when finalised.

15 August - Concession Prices

As a reminder, below is what falls under the "concession" price at the turnstile:

  • Over 65's
  • Disabled
  • Southampton FC Season Ticket Holders
  • Student Cards

(Saints season ticket & student cards must be shown at the turnstile)

So all the above can gain entry for just £5!

12 August - 50/50 Prize Draw

Every home game you have the chance to win some cash & help Sholing FC in the process. "Sholing Golden Shot" draw tickets are available from the turnstile for £1 a ticket.  The winnings are 50% of the total ticket receipts and the lucky ticket number is announced at half time over the tannoy. The more tickets sold, the bigger the prize!  The average prize was over £50 last season, with the highest being a whopping £115!

11 August - Dave Fear looks ahead

001DaveFearJoint first team Manager, Dave Fear, addressed Sholing fans ahead of a busy first week of the new football season.

"At last the season begins. I'm very much looking forward to 2014/15 and the new challenge with the first two homes games of the campaign this week (Wednesday against North Leigh & Saturday against Stratford).  I am confident that with the continued support of the ultras, all our fans, committee members and volunteer staff, our new management and squad can continue progressing in the right direction and add to the success of last season."

"I'm proud to say that two of my former youth players, Mike Carter & Lee Wort, have gone on to sign at a higher league level. They will be sorely missed within the club and I send them my best wishes for the future."

"With a tough campaign ahead us the positive vibes throughout Sholing FC will make Season 2014/15 a very enjoyable experience I'm sure."

"On behalf of fellow first team manager, Mick Marsh, as well as all the coaching & playing staff, thank you all for your continued support and hard work on and off the pitch, it can't be done without you!"

10 August - Lee Wort joins Gosport Borough

LeeWortLee Wort has signed a contract to join Conference South side, Gosport Borough.  After a three week trial at League Two side, Accrington Stanley, their manager, James Beattie, declined to offer Lee a full time contract, but Gosport were quick to snap him up.  There was a lot of interest in signing Lee from other local clubs, but at Gosport he'll be reunited with Mike Carter and there are a few other familiar faces down the M27.  There was a chance that Lee might return to Sholing, but it's only right that he tests himself at a higher level, having been by far the best striker at Step 4 & 5 Level of Non League for the last 3 or 4 seasons.

Lee came through the Sholing youth system and started scoring goals for fun in the reserves in 2009/10. Since breaking into the First Team the following season, he's averaged between 40 & 50 goals a season. He probably helped to set up just as many too.

Everyone at Sholing FC wish Lee all the best at his new club & he'll always be welcome back at the Silverlake Arena.  Lee & Mike Carter will be pitchside before the game on Wednesday evening to say thanks to the Sholing fans.

Car Wash - Our U13s are holding a fundraising carwash on Saturday 1th between 12-3pm at St Andrews Church on South East Rd, Sholing. Please come and support the Team whilst getting your car all clean and shiny

8 August - Kenya Calling

JacobAfricaSholing's fan base now reaches all the way to the slums of Nakuru in Kenya, thanks to Ultra, Jacob Matthews. He recently volunteered for three weeks work in Nakuru and as part of that trip, also had the opportunity to visit a child that he has sponsored for the past three years through Compassion UK. Jacob knew Charles was football mad but didnt know who he supported. The best present ever... a Sholing FC football shirt, along with a full explanation of our glorious trip to Wembley. A very contented boy now has a fabulous football shirt and a brand new football to show off his silky skills!

7 July - Message from the Chairman

The new season is nearly upon us and preparations are underway on and off the field for the trials and tribulations that l am sure will come our way in the days ahead.

We have a small window of opportunity to make the most of our FA Vase win and we must reach out to the business fraternity to develop relationships that will see the Club push on to sustain our Southern League Status. I hope you will get behind the new management Team and the lads as we will be there to be shot at as our FA Vase Fame proceeds us into the early season fixtures.

It is good to see that the majority of the lads have put pen to paper and along with the new signings i am optimistic about our return to the Southern League.

I will be announcing soon news of additions to the Executive Board with a view to strengthen our off field Team. - Dave Diaper
