Bradey Norton’s acrobatic winner meant Sholing confirmed an impressive third place finish in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division with a 3-2 victory over Team Solent. The place was secured following Blackfield & Langley’s being defeated in a very similar circumstance to last season when Sholing pipped them for 2nd place.

Team News : As Dave Diaper prepared the side for their last home game of the season Byron Mason was serving out his ban. Owen Roundell damaged a toe in training Thursday evening and was rested. Lee Wort came through the pre match warm up but again wasn’t risked ahead of the two finals. TJ Cuthbertson returned to right back and Owen Royl switched to left back in place of Marvin McLean. Kevin Brewster dropped to the bench and was replaced by Barry Mason. Recent signing Bradey Norton was available and took his place on the bench.

With Dan Mason starting, he achieved a landmark by playing in every one of Sholing's Wessex League matches.  Considering he gets his fair share of kicks as the League's leading scorer, some achievement to not miss a game.

Dan Miller retained the Captains arm band and prior to kick off was presented with a memento for recently achieving 200 appearances. Sholing Vice-President Trevor Lewis presented Dan with a plaque.

On a gloriously sunny & warm day, the home side took control of the game early on and rightly took the lead after 15 minutes, when Zac Mouland trapped the ball near the left edge of the 6 yard box and he cut it back for JAMIE BULPITT to connect first time with a side foot finish that went through the legs of Lee Webber.

Zac Mouland looked to be provider again on 21 minutes, as the Boatmen came close to doubling their lead. He found Dan Mason in the box following a corner - and the Sholing's top scorer came agonisingly close as his shot was blocked well on the line.

On 35 minutes Referee Alex James waived away a massive shout for a penalty when a rising shot into the penalty area clearly struck the arm of the Team Solent but fortunately for The Sparks the scored remained 1-0.

Dave Diaper’s men continued to dominate proceedings, and finally doubled their lead in the 38th minute through the impressive ZAC MOULAND. This time the roles were reversed with Jamie Bulpitt providing the assist. His superb tackle in midfield stole possession and he set Zac Mouland up for an arrowed low finish across Webber and into the far corner for his 14th goal of the season.

Moments before the half-time whistle, Luke Dempsey almost extended Sholing’s lead further. His powerful header from Micky Hubbard’s corner was pushed over the crossbar by Solent goalkeeper and former Sholing shot stopper Lee Webber, however Ryan Gosney in the home goal had very little action to deal with. HT: 2-0

Team Solent came out the quicker of the two sides in the second half. Matt Sheedy advanced down the left wing in a threatening attack before skipper Dan Miller intervened. The visitors then made it 2-1 in the 52nd minute, when a rare slip by Dan Miller allowed Matt Sheedy to use his pace once more and burst through the midfield and tucking the ball into the corner.

Dan Mason almost restored Sholings two goal cushion when he was picked out in the Solent penalty area by Micky Hubbard. However, Lee Webber came out and cleared the danger. On 63 minutes Zac Mouland made way for Bradey Norton to make his home debut.

Team Solent used their pace in attack once more, and levelled the game in the 65th minute as Captain, Tyrell Mitford, skipped past the Sholing defence and scored with a neat finish.

With the game opening up in the final stages, Sholing pushed on for a late winner it was TJ Cuthbertson that got the better of the Solent defence with a surging run, but his shot was straight at Webber.

With 7 minutes to go, Sholing got the winner. Barry Mason’s corner wasn't cleared and as the ball dropped to BRADEY NORTON 16 yards out, he hooked an acrobatic shot into the bone dry pitch and it bounced up with pace past the despairing dive of Lee Webber. FT 3-2
