Sholing celebrated on three fronts, as a big win was matched by a big crowd and a big landmark.  The Boatmen stormed to a 5-0 victory in front of 488 spectators enjoying free admission on a day where manager, Dave Diaper, took charge of the team for the 900th time.

Team News: Two changes from Tuesday night’s win against Team Solent. Owen Roundell and Micky Hubbard came into the starting lineup for Kevin Brewster and Owen Royl.

Before the game, Dave Diaper was award the Wessex Club of the month award for February from Bob Purkiss MBE.  Diapes then received a frame photo montage from lifelong friend Mick Brown.  This was added to by an engraved plague from Chairman, Gerry Roberts.  The presentation was capped off by a Sholing shirt, signed by the players & club staff, handed to Dave by his son, Marc, surrounded by their family.

On a day of many smiles, the only sad moment was a minute's silence as a mark of respect to Sholing season ticket holder, Cyril Cantello, who recently passed away.

After a slow start and a very strong wind down the length of the pitch dictating play, the game sprung into life on 18 mins when Sholing were awarded a penalty after Lee Wort was tripped as he advanced into the box. DAN MASON stepped up and smashed the ball into the top corner for his 42nd goal of the season.

Lee Wort then had a long range shot, but it was comfortably stopped by Bournemouth keeper Nick Thomas. The striker then met a cross with a low header, but his effort was again, straight at the keeper.  The visitors weren't creating much going forward, but a couple of slips by the Sholing defence dealing with the gusty wind, almost gave them hope before quickly being snuffed out.

MICKY HUBBARD then made it 2-0 to the hosts four minutes before half time when he latched onto the loose ball and arrowed a shot into the bottom left corner from 15 yards.  HT 2-0

The second half started as it the first ended, with Sholing on the front foot. Byron Mason, looking for his first goal since September, unleashed a thunderous long range shot that flew just past the post and almost took the head off a fan behind the goal.

Sholing then made it 3-0 within five minutes of the restart. Bournemouth failed to clear a corner, and when the ball finally landed into the feet of TJ CUTHBERTSON, the right back struck a shot from 18-yards that went through a sea of legs and into the bottom right corner.  Dan Mason cheekly said he got a touch, but after a bit of lighthearted banter, TJ claimed it.

A rare Bournemouth attack brought about their first meaningful effort, but Hasan Aurow saw his shot drag wide of the goal as the away side never looked likely to deny Ryan Gosney a 20th clean sheet of the season. Just before the hour mark, MICKY HUBBARD netted his second of the game with a low 20 yard free kick that went in off the far post to make it 4-0.

LEE WORT grabbed himself a deserved goal on on 66 minutes when he capitalised on a defensive error and chipped the ball over the keeper from just inside the box.  Just after the restart, Dan Mason, attempted an ambitious effort from the halfway line when he caught the keeper off his line, but his shot went wide of the target. Sholing should have made it six, but Wort put a stooping header from a Jake Hoole cross, wide with the goal gaping.

The Sholing Ultras fittingly chanted ‘Dave Diaper’s Red and White Army’ as the Boatmen saw out the game to make their Community club day a celebratory one both on and off the field. FT 5-0
