Tonight's game took place just 24 hours after the tragic death of Sholing 1st team Coach, and our friend, Darren Burdle.  The match was played to honour our football mad friend.  Club thanks everyone for the hundreds of condolences messages and those who turned up on a cold rainy night to watch the game.  Also respect to Hedge End Rangers for playing in difficult circumstances.   RIP "Birdman".

Before kick off, an emotionally charged minute's applause took place to honour Darren.

Sholing went about their business very professionally and set the tone of this match as early as the second minute. A corner won on the right was taken by Kevin Brewster who picked out Captain Byron Mason and his header smacked against Wilson’s crossbar but BARRY MASON was alert enough to follow up the rebound. The score was soon doubled when leading scorer DAN MASON drilled the ball into the corner of the net leaving keeper Matt Wilson rooted to the spot.

Boatmen were able to dominate the pace of the game and concentrated on playing one touch football as well being able to give themselves time on the ball. On twenty five minutes Sholing increased their lead when LEE WORT scored from eight yards. Jordan Brooks was a virtual spectator however on twenty eight minutes he had to be alert to prevent Daniel Goosey scoring at the near post.

On the half hour LEE WORT scored his second of the night when he was put clear and the striker rounded Wilson and tucked the ball away for the Boatmen’s fourth. Five minutes later the score of the opening goal Barry Mason turned provider for his brother DAN MASON to get his brace with a spectacular scissor kick. Despite the very one sided nature of the game, Hedge End continued to dig deep and Matthew Wilson in the Hedge End goal kept the score down. HT 5-0

Hedge End started the half and introduced Domnyk Newman. Once again it was down to Matthew Wilson to keep the score down along with his crossbar. Dave Diaper made his first change on fifty seven minutes replacing skipper Byron Mason with Zac Mouland and two minutes later, Lee Wort’s header hits the crossbar and ZAC MOULAND follows up to smash the ball past Wilson.

Then two minutes later it was goal number 7, when ZAC MOULAND chipped keeper Matthew Wilson from 20 yards, his effort hits the post, but the defender was unable to prevent the ball going in the net. With Sholing in full flow Dan Mason was denied a hattrick when his effort rattled the Hedge End bar four minutes later. A minute later 17 year old OWEN ROYL hit his first senior goal when he met Kevin Brewster’s corner and headed the ball past Wilson from 12 yards.

Two minutes later ZAC MOULAND completed his first hat trick for the club inside nine minutes with a rasping shot. Dave Diaper made a double substitution replacing both Dan Mason & Lee Wort with Nick Yeomans & Jake Hoole.

Six minutes later Zac Mouland turned provider and picked out NICK YEOMANS to score the tenth goal of the evening. KEVIN BREWSTER was next to get on the score sheet, finishing off a free flowing move on eighty one minutes. On marking this goal the Ultras again took to song and started singing “There's only one Darren Burdle”. With four minutes remaining it was again ZAC MOULAND scoring his fourth goal of the evening.

This was a fitting tribute to Darren Burdle by all of the players in emotionally testing circumstances. At the final whistle the crowd applauded everyone that participated especially the gallant Hedge End Rangers players. FT 12-0
