Sholing romped to a big win on our first ever visit to Amesbury, hitting the home team for six and making it ten goals in a week on our travels.

Team News: Alex Sawyer came in for Kev Brewster for the only change to the team. A pitch in great condition, welcomed the Boatmen for one of our longest away trips of the season.

The home team came flying out of the blocks, putting Sholing on the back foot and creating a couple of half chances as the Boatmen defence struggled to clear our lines.  However, the early Amesbury pressure only resorted in shots that didn't trouble Gosney and after weathering that initial 10 minutes, Sholing took control for the rest of the match and went in front on 19 minutes.  ZAC MOULAND found space on the right side of the area and hit a daisy cutter across the keeper and inside the far post.

Set pieces caused the home team problems all night and an inswinging corner from Alex Sawyer almost snuck in at the far post, was cleared to Byron Mason near the penalty spot, who tried to dink it over the gang of players in the 6 yard box, but it just cleared the bar.   Ryan Gosney was called into action on 28 minutes when he brilliantly saved from point blank range after a corner fell to an Amesbury player, 10 yards out.

LEE WORT had the ball in the back of the net just before the half hour mark, but was ruled out for offside, but he only had to wait a minute for his 4th goal back in a Sholing shirt.  Zac Mouland's shot from the edge of the area was palmed by the keeper into the path of Wort, who had the simple task of tapping in from 6 yards.

As the rain started to fall, the pressure from Sholing didn't relent. A cross to the far post found Dan Mason, who headed back over the keeper, but a defender was on hand to hack the ball off the line.  HT 0-2

The Boatmen went up into another gear for the second half as the large flat pitch was used to our advantage with some flowing, inventive football.   On 53 minutes, DAN MASON scored his 21st of the season after a Sawyer freekick into the box saw an air-shot by an Amesbury defender that presented the ball to D-Dan 10 yards out with the whole goal to aim at... and he was never going to pass up that opportunity.

10 minutes later and a fast paced attack saw Dan Mason denied by the keeper, the rebound fell to Sawyer, but he possibly delayed his shot and when he tried to poke home, a defender was able to block in front of an open net.  Sholing's movement and passing was too much for the home team and it was no surprise when on 65 minutes, we made it 4.  Marv played in Byron in space in the middle and he spread the play out to Jamie Bulpitt on the right wing, who fizzed in a low cross that was met by ZAC MOULAND and a defender sliding in together, with the ball creeping just over the line.  Zac claimed it, making 9 for the season so far.

Was an air of comedy about Sholing's 5th goal on 83 minutes, although Amesbury certainly weren't laughing.  A through ball towards the right wing saw the linesman raise his flag and initially it seemed the Referee had given the offside... but then he changed his mind. Amesbury had stopped, their keeper had come over to the wing and Dan Mason took the ball as everyone watched, crossed into a totally empty penalty area, apart from LEE WORT, who was there to nod over the line the easiest goal of his career.  Amesbury protested, but the goal stood.

Worty sniffed a great chance of a hat-trick and went close to getting it, but was denied by a good save and then hit a thunderbolt volley just over the bar from distance.   Sholing left the best to last right on the 90 minute mark.  Corey Cherrett, who has now settled very well into the side, broke forward and released Byron Mason down the right, his pinpoint cross picked out the arriving NICK YEOMANS, and the super-sub swept the ball home first time from 8 yards.

It capped a great performance, some excellent attacking football and not forgetting, a 12th clean sheet of the season too.  16 goals in the last four games with 13 of them shared between the front three (who are also being kept honest by Nick Yeomans who has scored 2 goals off the bench in only a handful of minutes).  FT 0-6
