Sholing made the trip to Southern Premier side Weymouth, who currently are riding high in 5th in that division (with many games in hand) in the Red Insure Cup Second Round.  The Boatmen pulled off a bit of an upset, comfortably beating the "Terras" thanks an early goal and then one just before full time, to progress to the Third Round draw.

Team News: Centre back Stuart Mott was suspended and Dan Miller unavailable due to Uni. Barry Mason work, Marvin McLean bruised foot, Kane Crisp dislocated knee, Lee Webber & Pete Castle knee injuries were all unavailable. Macaully Smith was unable to make the coach meant we only took 4 subs. Matt Brown returned between the posts and two weeks after his horrific head injury, Jude Nwachukwu returned to the squad, also included in squad was Jess Walklin and for the first time, Lewis Fear.

A lacklustre display from the Terras saw them sunk by the Boatmen on a wet and windy night at the Bob Lucas Stadium. The Weymouth outfit, claiming this was an experimental side, however all had 1st team experience this season apart from Adam Anstey failed to book their place in the next round of the Red Insure cup match and were uninspiring throughout against the Boatmen.

Sholing started brightly and a penetrating run and cross by Tobi Adekunle was met by the head of Sam Olaofe but his effort went over the bar. The hosts did come close to opening the scoring on five minutes when a searching ball from Jamie West found Luke Winsper, who flicked the ball on for Tim Sills to head over the crossbar. Another cross from Tobi Adekunle was just wide of Alex Baldachinno, then followed a 6 man move, which ended with Tobi Adekunle’s shot being held by Joe Podomo at his near post.

TOBI ADEKUNLE then opened the scoring on 19 minutes following a pass from Alex Sawyer. The winger created some space for himself on the angle, and struck a well-placed shot past a scrambling Prodomo, which nestled in the far corner.

Terras’ wideman Tristan Plummer nearly equalised 6 minutes later, after switching flanks, he skipped past his man and drilled a low effort at Matt Brown in the visitors goal which was well held. Then on 26 minutes we had an American Football style time out the Terras goalkeeper appeared to be injured and whilst receiving treatment Manager Jason Matthews gathered all outfield players at the dugout for a re-evaluation.

Conor Jevon then headed narrowly over from a corner, and Jamie Beasley unleashed a fierce strike which an outstretched Brown did well to tip over. But the Terras looked sloppy in possession in parts, and Alex Baldachinno nearly made them pay. He jinked away from a sea of static Weymouth bodies and drove the ball through the legs of a Terras’ defender to force a smart save from Joe Podomo. Luke Winsper then had to be taken off as a precaution 2 minutes before half-time and was replaced by Gareth Will for the hosts.  HT 0-1

A minute into the 2nd half, good work between Dan Mason & Sam Olaofe failed to pick out Alex Baldachinno. It got worse for Weymouth, as throughout the second period the Premier side lacked a cutting edge.

Sholing were given a golden opportunity to seal the tie when Dan Mason capitalised on some sloppy work once again, but as he got goalside of Callum Laird to go one-on-one with Joe Prodomo, he lost his footing on the greasy surface. On 71 minutes TJ Cuthbertson was cautioned for a foul then Nick Watts was introduced in place of Alex Baldachinno 3 minutes later.

Midfielder Alex Sawyer almost added to the Terras’ misery when the ball fell to him 20 yards out and his shot cannoned off an upright away to safety. Then with 9 minutes left Sholing welcomed back Jude Nwachukwu in place of Sam Olaofe. But the final nail in the coffin came as Joe Prodomo parried a strike from Alex Sawyer straight into the path of DAN MASON, who put the ball away with the easiest of headers on 87 mins. This allowed the final substitution with Lewis Fear replacing Taurean Manders. Then in the 3rd minute of stoppage time Tobi Adekunle was cautioned for delaying the start of play. FT 0-2
